Young Money’s general Lil Wayne is back with his new mixtape entitled “Sorry 4 the Wait.” True to its title, the mixtape is meant to tide fans over until August 29, 2011, which is the current released date for his highly anticipated “Tha Carter IV” album. Wayne’s first singles “6 Foot 7 Foot,” “John,” and “How to Love” have had presence on the radio, so the album is sure to appeal to his numerous fans.
“Sorry 4 the Wait” brings Weezy’s usual assault of punchlines, such as “my homies got that white girl call it Lady Gaga” or “put some change on your head, boy you on sale.” Guests include Young Money affiliate Gudda Gudda and New Orleans rappers Thugga, Raw Dizzy, and Flow. But perhaps the most perplexing guest is none other than Lil B. The Based God appears on the freestyle to Waka Flocka Flame’s hit “Grove St. Party.” Lil B delivers his trademark goofy lyrics as a follow up to Lil Wayne’s verse.
The new mixtape is a solid contribution from Wayne. There are enough punchlines and memorable lyrics to quote on Twitter and Facebook statuses for a while. The subject matter of the songs are not new, as Tunechi revisits his habits of smoking weed and hanging with women. There are no emotional songs like his old mixtape hit “Something You Forgot” or Carter III song “Tie My Hands,” but overall, “Sorry 4 the Wait” provides a respectable offering from the Birdman Jr. Wayne, we forgive you for the wait.
